Using only recycled paper and card
All of the paper and card used in Blossom Creations’ products is 100% recycled paper with the highest post-consumer waste content available. Post-consumer means it is made from material generated by households or by businesses which can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
Our 100% post-consumer waste paper is Processed Chlorine Free and is made without the use of optical brighteners. All waste from the production process is recycled to create a wide range of products including energy and as raw material for the building industry. The production process itself is ecologically sound, water is recycled and returned to the river cleaner than it arrives.
Our 100% post-consumer waste paper comes with the highest environmental accreditations, it is certified and verified in accordance with the EMAS DK-000023 - European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Founded by the European Union, this is considered to be the most superior environmental standard available.
The 100% post-consumer waste paper also has ISO 14001 environmental management systems accreditation. ISO 14001 specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects over which the organisation has control and can be expected to have an influence.
When packaging the products for sale or shipping, minimal packaging is used and recycled material is used wherever possible.

Using hemp, organically grown cotton, and other alternative fibres
Hemp, jute, organic cotton, linen or other alternative fibres are used in fabric products.
Hemp is a significantly less water-reliant crop than cotton and is able to be grown pesticide and herbicide free, given the natural oils in the plant do not appeal to insects. It is stronger than cotton, naturally UV resistant, as well as resistant to mould and mildew.
Similarly, Jute requires little/no chemicals to grow and process and is a more sustainable crop than cotton.
Linen, an old fibre crop from the flax plant is one of earth’s earliest natural fibres to be made into cloth. It requires significantly less water to grow than cotton.

Printing with water/vegetable based inks
When printing our fabrics in-house, we screen print with water based, slovent-free inks. When our paper products are printed commercially we use a green printer who uses soy/vegetable based inks and recycled paper.
Vegetable based ink is made with vegetable oil, such as soybean or linseed oil and is used as a substitute for petroleum. These inks significantly reduce the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) released into the air during printing. These inks produce less toxic waste, are biodegradable, and come from renewable resources.

Exercising Environmentally Sustainable Design, Manufacture, and General Business Practices
We also have an environmentally friendly office, studio and workshop. We use green power, energy efficient light bulbs, make every effort to reduce water usage and recycle water, recycle all recyclable materials, purchase only 100% post-consumer waste office paper and stationery and support sustainable businesses.
